This increasingly rare cockatoo - due to loss of habitat - the palm or drummer cockatoo is the only bird which uses tools to drum musically on the side of the nest to attract a mate. They are found only in Australia and neighbouring New Guinea.

The Shoebill Stork

The shoebill stork is a rare specimen even in the wetlands of Uganda one of the few habitats that support this amazing bird. It stands over a metre tall and has been known to eat small crocodiles. Basically it is a fish eater and the large powerful bill also gives it the name Whalebill.

Currently is thought there are as few as 40 in Uganda and they may well be none within the next few years due to habitat loss. They are one of the last links to prehistoric creatures living today and are protected.
